This statement is an auxiliary Hilbert-space argument. Let x,y:Ω→Rx,y:Ω→ℝx,y:Ω→R belong to MemLp with exponent 222 under a measure PPP. Let c∈Rc∈ℝc∈R and let X,Y,Z∈[0,∞]X,Y,Z∈[0,∞]X,Y,Z∈[0,∞] be the squared ENNReal integrals of xxx, yyy, and x−yx-yx−y, respectively. Assume

  1. X=∫∥x∥2dPX=\int\|x\|^2dPX=∫∥x∥2dP, Y=∫∥y∥2dPY=\int\|y\|^2dPY=∫∥y∥2dP, and Z=∫∥x−y∥2dPZ=\int\|x-y\|^2dPZ=∫∥x−y∥2dP;
  2. X.toReal=c2Y.toRealX.toReal=c^2Y.toRealX.toReal=c2Y.toReal;
  3. Z.toReal=(c−1)2Y.toRealZ.toReal=(c-1)^2Y.toRealZ.toReal=(c−1)2Y.toReal.

Then

x=c yP-almost everywhere.x=c\,y\quad P\text{-almost everywhere}.x=cyP-almost everywhere.

The result uses toReal on the ENNReal quantities and requires only the stated MemLp assumptions, not that PPP be a probability measure. It is a reusable uniqueness criterion for identifying scalar multiples from squared distances.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
