Fixed-point complex product stays in the unit disc

integer-multiplication

Let p≥0p\ge0p≥0 and let a,b∈Z[i]a,b\in\mathbb Z[i]a,b∈Z[i] with ∣a∣,∣b∣≤2p|a|,|b|\le 2^p∣a∣,∣b∣≤2p. The fixed-point product mulZ p a b =ρ0(ab/2p)=\rho_0(ab/2^p)=ρ0(ab/2p), which rounds the real and imaginary parts of ab/2pab/2^pab/2p towards zero, satisfies

∣ mulZp(a,b) ∣≤2p.|\,\mathrm{mulZ}_p(a,b)\,|\le 2^p .∣mulZp(a,b)∣≤2p.

So fixed-point multiplication at precision ppp maps the closed unit polydisc (in units of 2−p2^{-p}2−p) into itself, as in §2.3 of Harvey–van der Hoeven.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
