Existence of the cyclotomic -extension of
Provedexists_isZpExtension_ratgalois-theoryiwasawa-theorynumber-theory
Let be an odd prime and an algebraic closure of . There is a subfield such that is a -extension, i.e. is Galois and
as topological groups (Krull topology on the left).
Concretely, is the unique subfield of fixed by the torsion subgroup : the cyclotomic -extension of . Composing with any number field it yields the cyclotomic -extension of , the basic object of Iwasawa theory.
Formalization Note "-extension" is the platform definition IsZpExtension (Galois, with Galois group topologically isomorphic to Multiplicative ℤ_[p]).
