This statement proves convergence in L1L^1L1 of normalized Gaussian smoothing to its source density.

Let VVV be a finite-dimensional real inner-product space with its Borel measurable structure. Let ννν be a probability measure on VVV, and let ρ:V→Rρ : V → ℝρ:V→R satisfy IsBorellDensity ν volume ρ. For each real parameter sss, let normalizedDensity ρ s denote the normalized Gaussian-smoothed density. As sss tends to infinity through the real numbers,

∫V∣normalizedDensity⁡(ρ,s,x)−ρ(x)∣ dx⟶0.\int_V \left|\operatorname{normalizedDensity}(ρ,s,x)-ρ(x)\right|\,dx \longrightarrow 0.∫V∣normalizedDensity(ρ,s,x)−ρ(x)∣dx⟶0.

The result supplies total-variation-type approximation at the density level and can be reused to compare integrals of bounded observables.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
