Let m≥1m\ge1m≥1 be an integer and α∈C\alpha\in\mathbb Cα∈C with α≠α‾\alpha\ne\overline\alphaα=α, and put hα(t)=−t(tm+1)(αtm+α‾)∈C[t]h_\alpha(t)=-t(t^m+1)(\alpha t^m+\overline\alpha)\in\mathbb C[t]hα(t)=−t(tm+1)(αtm+α)∈C[t]. Let Kα=C(t)[W]/(W2−hα)K_\alpha=\mathbb C(t)[W]/(W^2-h_\alpha)Kα=C(t)[W]/(W2−hα) be the function field of the double cover w2=hα(t)w^2=h_\alpha(t)w2=hα(t), where ttt and www denote the classes of ttt and WWW; in the setting of the note this is the function field of VαV_\alphaVα, read in the chart of equation (7) with w=t(tm+1)Yw=t(t^m+1)Yw=t(tm+1)Y. Write ΩKα/C\Omega_{K_\alpha/\mathbb C}ΩKα/C for the KαK_\alphaKα-vector space of Kähler differentials of KαK_\alphaKα over C\mathbb CC and dxdxdx for the differential of x∈Kαx\in K_\alphax∈Kα.

For the place over t=∞t=\inftyt=∞, put hα‾(s)=−s(sm+1)(α‾sm+α)h_{\overline\alpha}(s)=-s(s^m+1)(\overline\alpha s^m+\alpha)hα(s)=−s(sm+1)(αsm+α) and let Kα‾=C(s)[W]/(W2−hα‾)K_{\overline\alpha}=\mathbb C(s)[W]/(W^2-h_{\overline\alpha})Kα=C(s)[W]/(W2−hα) be the function field of the conjugate cover w′2=hα‾(s){w'}^2=h_{\overline\alpha}(s)w′2=hα(s), where sss and w′w'w′ denote the classes of sss and WWW. Since hα‾(0)=0h_{\overline\alpha}(0)=0hα(0)=0, the point (s,w′)=(0,0)(s,w')=(0,0)(s,w′)=(0,0) lies on this cover; let O(0,0)′⊂Kα‾\mathcal O'_{(0,0)}\subset K_{\overline\alpha}O(0,0)′⊂Kα be the localization of C[s][W]/(W2−hα‾)\mathbb C[s][W]/(W^2-h_{\overline\alpha})C[s][W]/(W2−hα) at the maximal ideal of this point (the kernel of s↦0s\mapsto0s↦0, w′↦0w'\mapsto0w′↦0), a discrete valuation ring, whose uniformizers are the generators of its maximal ideal. Let φ ⁣:Kα→Kα‾\varphi\colon K_\alpha\to K_{\overline\alpha}φ:Kα→Kα be the isomorphism of C\mathbb CC-algebras with φ(t)=1/s\varphi(t)=1/sφ(t)=1/s and φ(w)=w′ s−(m+1)\varphi(w)=w'\,s^{-(m+1)}φ(w)=w′s−(m+1), the chart s=1/ts=1/ts=1/t, w′=w sm+1w'=w\,s^{m+1}w′=wsm+1 at infinity. The place of KαK_\alphaKα over t=∞t=\inftyt=∞ has valuation ring O∞=φ−1(O(0,0)′)\mathcal O_\infty=\varphi^{-1}(\mathcal O'_{(0,0)})O∞=φ−1(O(0,0)′).

Differentials of Kα‾K_{\overline\alpha}Kα are written in the same way, in ΩKα‾/C\Omega_{K_{\overline\alpha}/\mathbb C}ΩKα/C. A differential ω∈ΩKα/C\omega\in\Omega_{K_\alpha/\mathbb C}ω∈ΩKα/C is regular at infinity if its transport φ∗ω∈ΩKα‾/C\varphi_{\ast}\omega\in\Omega_{K_{\overline\alpha}/\mathbb C}φ∗ω∈ΩKα/C, determined by φ∗(g dx)=φ(g) dφ(x)\varphi_{\ast}(g\,dx)=\varphi(g)\,d\varphi(x)φ∗(gdx)=φ(g)dφ(x), is regular at (0,0)(0,0)(0,0): for every uniformizer u′u'u′ of O(0,0)′\mathcal O'_{(0,0)}O(0,0)′ and every g′∈Kα‾g'\in K_{\overline\alpha}g′∈Kα with φ∗ω=g′ du′\varphi_{\ast}\omega=g'\,du'φ∗ω=g′du′ one has g′∈O(0,0)′g'\in\mathcal O'_{(0,0)}g′∈O(0,0)′.

Let hα‾′h_{\overline\alpha}'hα′ be the derivative of hα‾h_{\overline\alpha}hα. For every f∈Kαf\in K_\alphaf∈Kα,

f dt is regular at infinity  ⟺  φ(f)⋅−2w′s2 hα‾′(s)∈O(0,0)′.f\,dt\text{ is regular at infinity}\iff\varphi(f)\cdot\frac{-2w'}{s^2\,h_{\overline\alpha}'(s)}\in\mathcal O'_{(0,0)}.fdt is regular at infinity⟺φ(f)⋅s2hα′(s)−2w′∈O(0,0)′.

The element on the right is the coefficient of the transported differential φ∗(f dt)\varphi_{\ast}(f\,dt)φ∗(fdt) against the uniformizer w′w'w′ of O(0,0)′\mathcal O'_{(0,0)}O(0,0)′. This is the regularity criterion at the place over t=∞t=\inftyt=∞, which is then simplified to the condition φ(f)/w′3∈O(0,0)′\varphi(f)/{w'}^3\in\mathcal O'_{(0,0)}φ(f)/w′3∈O(0,0)′; in this way it enters the formal proof of the genus clause of Lemma 4 of the note (the normalization of VαV_\alphaVα has genus mmm) and, through the case m=2m=2m=2, of Remark 5.

Formalization Note: the hypotheses m≥1m\ge1m≥1 and α≠α‾\alpha\ne\overline\alphaα=α are Fact instances; the condition ∣α∣=1|\alpha|=1∣α∣=1 of the note is not assumed. In the formal statement the coefficient appears as φ(f)⋅(s2hα‾′(s))−1⋅(−2w′)\varphi(f)\cdot\bigl(s^2h_{\overline\alpha}'(s)\bigr)^{-1}\cdot(-2w')φ(f)⋅(s2hα′(s))−1⋅(−2w′).

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
