This is the covariance-bilinear-form identity for Gaussian smoothing.

Let EEE be a complete finite-dimensional real inner-product space with Borel measurable structure. Let μ\muμ be a probability measure with finite second moment, let s>0s>0s>0, and let v,w∈Ev,w\in Ev,w∈E. For the smoothed law smoothedLaw μ s,

CovBilin⁡μ∗γs(v,w)=CovBilin⁡μ(v,w)+⟨v,w⟩2s.\operatorname{CovBilin}_{\mu*\gamma_s}(v,w) =\operatorname{CovBilin}_{\mu}(v,w)+\frac{\langle v,w\rangle}{2s}.CovBilinμ∗γs(v,w)=CovBilinμ(v,w)+2s⟨v,w⟩.

Equivalently, Gaussian smoothing adds (2s)−1(2s)^{-1}(2s)−1 times the ambient inner product to the covariance bilinear form. The declaration does not reformulate this as an operator equality, although it determines the corresponding quadratic covariance operator.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
