Znám's Problem: For every k≥2k \geq 2k≥2, does there exist a set of kkk positive integers {x1,…,xk}\{x_1, \ldots, x_k\}{x1,…,xk} such that each xix_ixi divides 1+∏j≠ixj1 + \prod_{j \neq i} x_j1+∏j=ixj?

Štefan Znám posed this in 1975. Solutions are known for k=2,3,…,9k = 2, 3, \ldots, 9k=2,3,…,9. Example for k=2k=2k=2: {2,3}\{2, 3\}{2,3} since 2∣1+3=42 \mid 1+3=42∣1+3=4 and 3∣1+2=33 \mid 1+2=33∣1+2=3. The question is whether solutions exist for all kkk. Closely related to Egyptian fraction representations and Sylvester sequences.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
