Proposition 1, p. 21 โ for a diagonal QCQP, ๐_SOCP = ๐_SDP and Opt_SOCP = Opt_SDP
ProvedQCQPTightness.SOCP.proposition_1Consider a QCQP (1) with constraints, of which the first are inequalities, in the diagonal form (10): for vectors , so . Then the SOCP relaxation (11)โ(12) and the SDP relaxation (3)โ(4) have the same projected epigraph and the same optimal value:
No regularity assumption is made: both values may be (both relaxations infeasible) or .
Every SD-QCQP becomes a diagonal QCQP after an invertible change of variables, so the result says that for SD-QCQPs the sufficient conditions for SDP tightness and for the convex-hull identity apply verbatim to the much smaller SOCP relaxation. The value identity was first recorded by Locatelli; the set identity is new in the paper.
Formalization Note The paper states Proposition 1 "for any SD-QCQP", but and are defined only for the diagonal form (10), which ยง4.2.1 assumes throughout ("In the remainder of this section, we assume that we have already made this change of variables"). The theorem is therefore stated for a QCQP together with vectors and the hypothesis , . Optimal values are infima in EReal. Constraint is the paper's , an inequality iff .
