§9.1.1, Equation (9.1). In the realizable case we look for www with yi⟨w,xi⟩>0y_i\langle w, x_i\rangle > 0yi⟨w,xi⟩>0 for all iii. If w∗w^*w∗ satisfies this, γ=min⁡iyi⟨w∗,xi⟩\gamma = \min_i y_i\langle w^*, x_i\rangleγ=miniyi⟨w∗,xi⟩ and wˉ=w∗/γ\bar w = w^*/\gammawˉ=w∗/γ, then yi⟨wˉ,xi⟩≥1y_i\langle \bar w, x_i\rangle \ge 1yi⟨wˉ,xi⟩≥1 for all iii (9.1); and clearly such a vector is an ERM predictor.

Formally: the sample (xi,yi)(x_i, y_i)(xi,yi) is separable if and only if there is www with yi⟨w,xi⟩≥1y_i\langle w, x_i\rangle \ge 1yi⟨w,xi⟩≥1 for all iii.

/-- **§9.1.1, Equation (9.1)** (p. 119). In the realizable (separable) case there is a vector
with `yᵢ⟨w, xᵢ⟩ ≥ 1` for all `i` (scale a separating vector by `1/γ`, `γ = minᵢ yᵢ⟨w*, xᵢ⟩`),
and clearly such a vector separates the sample: separability is equivalent to the feasibility
of the linear constraints (9.1). -/

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
