For a Markov chain choice model with λj>0\lambda_j>0λj>0, ρj,i≥0\rho_{j,i}\ge 0ρj,i≥0 and ∑i∈Nρj,i<1\sum_{i\in N}\rho_{j,i}<1∑i∈Nρj,i<1 for all jjj, the polyhedron

H={(x,z)∈R+2n: xj+zj=λj+∑i∈Nρi,jzi  ∀j∈N}\mathcal H = \Big\{(x,z)\in\mathbb R^{2n}_+ :\ x_j + z_j = \lambda_j + \sum_{i\in N}\rho_{i,j} z_i\ \ \forall j\in N\Big\}H={(x,z)∈R+2n: xj+zj=λj+i∈N∑ρi,jzi  ∀j∈N}

is a bounded subset of R2n\mathbb R^{2n}R2n.

Together with the fact that H\mathcal HH is a polyhedron, boundedness makes H\mathcal HH a polytope, so every point of it is a convex combination of its extreme points.

Formalization Note Boundedness is Mathlib's Bornology.IsBounded in the product space (Fin n → ℝ) × (Fin n → ℝ) (sup metric). The paper proves this lemma in its online appendix; the statement here is the one quoted in the proof of Theorem 7.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
