Let V⊆U(2n)V \subseteq U(2^n)V⊆U(2n) be a finite set of nnn-qubit unitaries that is closed under adjoint (W∈V⇒W†∈VW \in V \Rightarrow W^\dagger \in VW∈V⇒W†∈V), and let SiS_iSi be the set of products of iii elements of VVV (S0={I}S_0 = \{I\}S0={I}). Then for every i≥0i \ge 0i≥0 and every unitary UUU,

U∈Si†={ X†:X∈Si }  ⟺  U∈Si,U \in S_i^\dagger = \{\,X^\dagger : X \in S_i\,\} \iff U \in S_i ,U∈Si†={X†:X∈Si}⟺U∈Si,

that is, U†∈SiU^\dagger \in S_iU†∈Si if and only if UUU can be implemented in depth iii.

This is the observation that opens the proof of Lemma 1. With V=Vn,GV = \mathcal V_{n,\mathcal G}V=Vn,G the hypothesis on VVV is the previous milestone.

Formalization Note. VVV stands for Vn,G\mathcal V_{n,\mathcal G}Vn,G; the statement is made for every finite set of unitaries closed under inverse, which is all the paper's argument uses. In the unitary group U−1=U†U^{-1} = U^\daggerU−1=U†.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
