Let u∈C∖Q‾u \in \mathbb{C} \setminus \overline{\mathbb{Q}}u∈C∖Q and c,k∈Cc, k \in \mathbb{C}c,k∈C with c≠0c \neq 0c=0, and suppose 1,u,u−11, u, u^{-1}1,u,u−1 lie in the Q‾\overline{\mathbb{Q}}Q-span of c,ch,ch2,ck,chkc, ch, ch^2, ck, chkc,ch,ch2,ck,chk. Suppose h=p(u)/q(u)h = p(u)/q(u)h=p(u)/q(u) with p,q∈Q‾[X]p, q \in \overline{\mathbb{Q}}[X]p,q∈Q[X] coprime and max⁡(deg⁡p,deg⁡q)≥1\max(\deg p, \deg q) \geq 1max(degp,degq)≥1. Then max⁡(deg⁡p,deg⁡q)≤2\max(\deg p, \deg q) \leq 2max(degp,degq)≤2.

A configuration (1,h)⊗Y(1, h) \otimes Y(1,h)⊗Y whose products span a five-dimensional W⊇Q‾+Q‾u+Q‾u−1W \supseteq \overline{\mathbb{Q}} + \overline{\mathbb{Q}}u + \overline{\mathbb{Q}}u^{-1}W⊇Q+Qu+Qu−1 gives, after normalisation, W=c⋅span(1,h,h2,k,hk)W = c\cdot\mathrm{span}(1, h, h^2, k, hk)W=c⋅span(1,h,h2,k,hk) (research notes R12, Q1; not formalised). So no such configuration has a ratio of degree 333 or more.

Proof. Evaluation at uuu embeds Q‾(X)\overline{\mathbb{Q}}(X)Q(X) in C\mathbb{C}C; let f=p/qf = p/qf=p/q. Coprimality and Mathlib's RatFunc.finrank_eq_max_natDegree give max⁡(deg⁡p,deg⁡q)≤[Q‾(X):Q‾(f)]\max(\deg p, \deg q) \le [\overline{\mathbb{Q}}(X) : \overline{\mathbb{Q}}(f)]max(degp,degq)≤[Q(X):Q(f)]. As fff is not constant, h∉Q‾h \notin \overline{\mathbb{Q}}h∈/Q, and DiazModulus.quadratic_over_ratio_of_mem_progression_pair_span gives A(h)u2+B(h)u+C(h)=0A(h)u^2 + B(h)u + C(h) = 0A(h)u2+B(h)u+C(h)=0; by injectivity XXX is a root of the non-zero A(f)Y2+B(f)Y+C(f)A(f)Y^2 + B(f)Y + C(f)A(f)Y2+B(f)Y+C(f) over Q‾(f)\overline{\mathbb{Q}}(f)Q(f) (fff is transcendental), so [Q‾(X):Q‾(f)]=deg⁡minpoly⁡X≤2[\overline{\mathbb{Q}}(X) : \overline{\mathbb{Q}}(f)] = \deg \operatorname{minpoly} X \le 2[Q(X):Q(f)]=degminpolyX≤2.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
