Throughout, ppp is a prime, ggg is a generator of the multiplicative group (Z/pZ)×(\mathbb Z/p\mathbb Z)^\times(Z/pZ)× (an element of order p−1p-1p−1), rrr is an integer with 0≤r<p−10\le r<p-10≤r<p−1 and x=grx=g^rx=gr (so rrr is the discrete logarithm of xxx), and q=2lq=2^lq=2l is a power of 222 with p<q<2pp<q<2pp<q<2p.

Measure the final state (6.3) of the discrete-logarithm algorithm, obtained by applying the Fourier transform AqA_qAq to each of the first two registers of the state (6.1). For 0≤c,d<q0\le c,d<q0≤c,d<q and 0≤k<p−10\le k<p-10≤k<p−1, the probability of observing ∣c,d,y⟩|c,d,y\rangle∣c,d,y⟩ with y≡gk(modp)y\equiv g^k\pmod py≡gk(modp) is

∣1(p−1)q∑0≤a,b≤p−2a−rb≡k (mod p−1)exp⁡ ⁣(2πiq(ac+bd))∣2.\left|\frac{1}{(p-1)q}\sum_{\substack{0\le a,b\le p-2\\ a-rb\equiv k\ (\mathrm{mod}\ p-1)}}\exp\!\left(\frac{2\pi i}{q}(ac+bd)\right)\right|^2 .(p−1)q10≤a,b≤p−2a−rb≡k (mod p−1)∑exp(q2πi(ac+bd))2.

This identifies the output distribution with an explicit exponential sum, the starting point for every probability estimate in the analysis.

Formalization Note The congruence a−rb≡ka-rb\equiv ka−rb≡k is taken in Z\mathbb ZZ modulo p−1p-1p−1 (Int.ModEq), with a,ba,ba,b ranging over {0,…,p−2}\{0,\dots,p-2\}{0,…,p−2}; the prefactor uses (p−1)(p-1)(p−1) computed in C\mathbb CC. The generator is encoded as orderOf g = p - 1; qqq is given as 2l2^l2l together with p<q<2pp<q<2pp<q<2p.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
