Let V⊆U(2n)V \subseteq U(2^n)V⊆U(2n) be a finite set of unitaries, standing for Vn,G\mathcal V_{n,\mathcal G}Vn,G, and let S0={I}S_0 = \{I\}S0={I}, Si=VSi−1S_i = VS_{i-1}Si=VSi−1. Then for every i≥0i \ge 0i≥0,

∣Si∣≤∣V∣i.|S_i| \le |V|^i .∣Si∣≤∣V∣i.

This bound turns the per-iteration cost of MITM-factor, stated in terms of ∣Si−1∣|S_{i-1}|∣Si−1∣ and ∣Si∣|S_i|∣Si∣, into the bound 2∣Vn,G∣ilog⁡(∣Vn,G∣i)2|\mathcal V_{n,\mathcal G}|^i\log(|\mathcal V_{n,\mathcal G}|^i)2∣Vn,G∣ilog(∣Vn,G∣i) of the running-time analysis. The time bound itself is part of the goal theorem.

Formalization Note. The statement holds for every finite set of unitaries VVV.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
