Let p0,…,p6p_0,\ldots,p_6p0,…,p6 be seven points in the unit square [0,1]2[0,1]^2[0,1]2. Then two of the points are at squared Euclidean distance at most (4−23)2(4-2\sqrt3)^2(4−23)2; equivalently, some pair is at distance at most 4−234-2\sqrt34−23.

∃i≠j,∣pi−pj∣2≤(4−23)2.\exists i\ne j,\qquad |p_i-p_j|^2\le (4-2\sqrt3)^2.∃i=j,∣pi−pj∣2≤(4−23)2.

This is the global optimality statement for the normalized seven-point problem. Together with the affine normalization from disk centers to points in the unit square, it yields the upper bound on the supremal radius for seven equal disks.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
