Let EEE be a finite-dimensional real inner-product space with its Borel measurable structure, let mmm be an additive Haar measure on EEE, and let φ:E→R\varphi:E\to\mathbb Rφ:E→R be convex. Assume

e−φ is integrable with respect to m.e^{-\varphi}\text{ is integrable with respect to }m.e−φ is integrable with respect to m.

Then φ\varphiφ has a global minimizer and every real sublevel set is compact:

∃y0∈E, ∀y∈E, φ(y0)≤φ(y),\exists y_0\in E,\ \forall y\in E,\ \varphi(y_0)\le\varphi(y),∃y0∈E, ∀y∈E, φ(y0)≤φ(y),

and

∀c∈R,{y:φ(y)≤c} is compact.\forall c\in\mathbb R,\quad\{y:\varphi(y)\le c\}\text{ is compact}.∀c∈R,{y:φ(y)≤c} is compact.

This gives the compactness and attainment properties required for finite-dimensional convex potentials with integrable exponential weight.

Formalization Note No normalization of the integral is assumed; only Integrable is required. Dimension zero is included.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
