Fix a natural number N>0N > 0N>0 and a complex number sss with Re⁡s>0\operatorname{Re} s > 0Res>0. Consider the tail integral appearing in the truncated zeta representation ζ0\zeta_0ζ0,

F(z)  =  ∫N∞(⌊x⌋+12−x) x−z−1 dx,F(z) \;=\; \int_{N}^{\infty} \Big( \lfloor x \rfloor + \tfrac{1}{2} - x \Big)\, x^{-z-1} \, dx,F(z)=∫N∞(⌊x⌋+21−x)x−z−1dx,

where ⌊x⌋+12−x\lfloor x \rfloor + \tfrac12 - x⌊x⌋+21−x is the (bounded, 111-periodic-type) sawtooth correction from Euler–Maclaurin summation. Then FFF is complex differentiable at sss, and its derivative is obtained by differentiating under the integral sign:

F′(s)  =  ∫N∞(⌊x⌋+12−x) x−s−1 (−log⁡x) dx.F'(s) \;=\; \int_{N}^{\infty} \Big( \lfloor x \rfloor + \tfrac{1}{2} - x \Big)\, x^{-s-1} \, (-\log x) \, dx.F′(s)=∫N∞(⌊x⌋+21−x)x−s−1(−logx)dx.

This is the key analyticity statement for the tail term of ζ0\zeta_0ζ0: it shows the Euler–Maclaurin remainder integral defines a holomorphic function of sss on the half-plane Re⁡s>0\operatorname{Re} s > 0Res>0, with an explicit derivative. Combined with the finite-sum and pole terms of ζ0\zeta_0ζ0, it yields the analytic continuation of ζ\zetaζ (and formulas for ζ′\zeta'ζ′) into the critical strip region needed for the zero-free-region and contour estimates of the Prime Number Theorem.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
