FM final correction: remove sentinel and carry, reduce modulo 2^N+1

NLogN.fmFinal_runs

integer-multiplicationschonhage-strassen-tmturing-machines

Let N≥1N\ge1N≥1, sss a state, 0≤z<2N+10\le z<2^{N+1}0≤z<2N+1 and ∣c∣≤2N|c|\le 2^N∣c∣≤2N. Assume ZZ has zzz on top (over LZL_ZLZ), CY has ccc on top (over LYL_YLY), RN has 2N2^N2N and RF has 2N+12^N+12N+1 on top. Then the segment fmFinal runs from sss to the state where ZZ and CY are popped and

(z−2N−c) mod (2N+1)(z-2^N-c)\bmod (2^N+1)(z−2N−c)mod(2N+1)

is pushed on ARG, with cost at most 25000 (N+3)25000\,(N+3)25000(N+3). The residue is the canonical one in [0,2N][0,2^N][0,2N] (Lean's % with positive modulus).

In the Schönhage–Strassen procedure zzz is the Horner value 2N+∑idi2iM2^N+\sum_i d_i 2^{iM}2N+∑idi2iM (with a leading sentinel 111) and ccc is the final carry, whose weight 2N2^N2N is ≡−1\equiv-1≡−1; this step therefore produces the product modulo 2N+12^N+12N+1.

Formalization Note. States are IState NS records with item stacks G : Fin NS → List Item (head = top), input pointer ip and output out; s.upd X L replaces stack X by L; ints A is the list of integer items of A. The named stacks (ARG, PRM, RN, RF, DX, DL, …) are fixed indices in Fin 32. IRuns I iprog p s s' c means that p executes from s to exactly s' with some cost c′≤cc' \le cc′≤c, so costs are upper bounds; the program text iprog and input I are arbitrary unless constrained.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
