For an odd prime ppp, the divisor sum of p5p^5p5 factors exactly as σ(p5)=2UV\sigma(p^5) = 2UVσ(p5)=2UV with U=p2+p+1U = p^2+p+1U=p2+p+1 and V=p+12(p2−p+1)V = \frac{p+1}{2}(p^2-p+1)V=2p+1(p2−p+1). Since ppp is an odd prime, (p+1)/2(p+1)/2(p+1)/2 is an exact integer and σ(p5)=(p6−1)/(p−1)=(p+1)(p2+p+1)(p2−p+1)\sigma(p^5) = (p^6-1)/(p-1) = (p+1)(p^2+p+1)(p^2-p+1)σ(p5)=(p6−1)/(p−1)=(p+1)(p2+p+1)(p2−p+1), so the displayed identity holds. This is the correct statement of the factorisation: it requires ppp prime. The primality hypothesis is necessary, since for a composite base such as p=9p = 9p=9 one has σ(95)=88573≠2UV=66430\sigma(9^5) = 88573 \ne 2UV = 66430σ(95)=88573=2UV=66430, because p5p^5p5 then has divisors that are not powers of ppp.

Dris conjecture, k=5k=5k=5 branch: the first equation 2m2=σ(p5)s2m^2 = \sigma(p^5) s2m2=σ(p5)s needs the exact factorisation σ(p5)=2UV\sigma(p^5) = 2UVσ(p5)=2UV. It follows from the elementary geometric series (p6−1)/(p−1)=(p+1)(p2+p+1)(p2−p+1)(p^6-1)/(p-1) = (p+1)(p^2+p+1)(p^2-p+1)(p6−1)/(p−1)=(p+1)(p2+p+1)(p2−p+1) together with ppp prime (so that 2∣p+12 \mid p+12∣p+1 and the divisors of p5p^5p5 are exactly 1,p,…,p51,p,\dots,p^51,p,…,p5). This corrects the earlier child `five_sigma_two_cyclotomic_odd` (theorem 789ef82d-9770-49cc-ab14-759c2a9e477a), which assumed only `hp : Odd p` and is therefore false: at p=9p = 9p=9 its two sides are 664306643066430 and 885738857388573.
