integer-multiplication

Let p,s,t,α,ℓp,s,t,\alpha,\ellp,s,t,α,ℓ be integers with 1≤s≤t1\le s\le t1≤s≤t and α≥1\alpha\ge1α≥1. Let Ui∈Z[i]U_i\in\mathbb Z[i]Ui∈Z[i] with ∣Ui∣≤2p|U_i|\le2^p∣Ui∣≤2p, so that ui=2−pUiu_i=2^{-p}U_iui=2−pUi lies in the unit disc. Let m=⌈⌈p⌉/α⌉+1m=\lceil\lceil\sqrt p\rceil/\alpha\rceil+1m=⌈⌈p⌉/α⌉+1. Then the output ZℓZ_\ellZℓ of Eapprox (see IntMul_HvdH_EApprox) satisfies

∣Zℓ−2p(Eu)ℓ∣≤5m+5,\bigl|Z_\ell-2^p(\mathcal Eu)_\ell\bigr|\le5m+5,Zℓ−2p(Eu)ℓ≤5m+5,

that is, ε(E~u)≤5m+5=O(p1/2/α+1)\varepsilon(\tilde{\mathcal E}u)\le5m+5=O(p^{1/2}/\alpha+1)ε(E~u)≤5m+5=O(p1/2/α+1).

This is Lemma 4.11 of Harvey–van der Hoeven, where the bound is 8m+3<13p8m+3<\tfrac13p8m+3<31p. The proof uses (th+bℓ)2−bℓ+h2≥s2∣h∣(∣h∣−1)(th+b_\ell)^2-b_{\ell+h}^2\ge s^2|h|(|h|-1)(th+bℓ)2−bℓ+h2≥s2∣h∣(∣h∣−1) for h≠0h\ne0h=0 to bound the tail ∣h∣>m|h|>m∣h∣>m by 2⋅2−p2\cdot2^{-p}2⋅2−p, and Lemma 2.13 with rounding for each of the 2m2m2m remaining terms.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
