Let HHH be a finite group and let (ρb,Vb)b∈Λ(\rho_b,V_b)_{b\in\Lambda}(ρb,Vb)b∈Λ be a complete family of irreducible unitary representations of HHH: Λ\LambdaΛ is a finite index set and, for each b∈Λb\in\Lambdab∈Λ, VbV_bVb is a finite-dimensional complex inner product space of dimension db≥1d_b\ge 1db≥1 on which HHH acts irreducibly by unitary operators ρb(h)\rho_b(h)ρb(h); distinct indices give non-isomorphic representations; and the characters χb(h)=tr⁡ρb(h)\chi_b(h)=\operatorname{tr}\rho_b(h)χb(h)=trρb(h) satisfy the regular-representation identity ∑b∈Λdb χb(h)=∣H∣ [h=1]\sum_{b\in\Lambda}d_b\,\chi_b(h)=|H|\,[h=1]∑b∈Λdbχb(h)=∣H∣[h=1] for all h∈Hh\in Hh∈H. Let eb(h)=db∣H∣ χb(h−1)e_b(h)=\frac{d_b}{|H|}\,\chi_b(h^{-1})eb(h)=∣H∣dbχb(h−1) be the character kernels.

Let III be a finite nonempty set with n=∣I∣n=|I|n=∣I∣ elements, let HIH^IHI be the product group, and for i∈Ii\in Ii∈I let ιi ⁣:H→HI\iota_i\colon H\to H^Iιi:H→HI put hhh in coordinate iii and 111 elsewhere. Let EEE be a finite-dimensional complex inner product space of dimension DDD and ρ\rhoρ a representation of HIH^IHI on EEE. Define:

  1. for a multi-index a ⁣:I→Λa\colon I\to\Lambdaa:I→Λ, the joint projector Pa=∑g∈HI(∏j∈Ieaj(gj))ρ(g)P_a=\sum_{g\in H^I}\big(\prod_{j\in I}e_{a_j}(g_j)\big)\rho(g)Pa=∑g∈HI(∏j∈Ieaj(gj))ρ(g);
  2. a least factor ℓ(a)∈I\ell(a)\in Iℓ(a)∈I, a fixed choice of coordinate with daℓ(a)≤dajd_{a_{\ell(a)}}\le d_{a_j}daℓ(a)≤daj for all j∈Ij\in Ij∈I;
  3. for v∈Ev\in Ev∈E and i∈Ii\in Ii∈I, the iii-th least-factor piece zi(v)=∑a: ℓ(a)=iPavz_i(v)=\sum_{a:\ \ell(a)=i}P_a vzi(v)=∑a: ℓ(a)=iPav;
  4. for b∈Λb\in\Lambdab∈Λ, the coordinate isotypic projector Pb(i)=∑h∈Heb(h) ρ(ιi(h))P^{(i)}_b=\sum_{h\in H}e_b(h)\,\rho(\iota_i(h))Pb(i)=∑h∈Heb(h)ρ(ιi(h)).

Then for every v∈Ev\in Ev∈E and i∈Ii\in Ii∈I,

∑b∈Λ: db n≤DPb(i) zi(v)=zi(v).\sum_{b\in\Lambda:\ d_b^{\,n}\le D}P^{(i)}_b\,z_i(v)=z_i(v).b∈Λ: dbn≤D∑Pb(i)zi(v)=zi(v).

In other words, in the iii-th coordinate the piece zi(v)z_i(v)zi(v) only involves irreducible representations of HHH of degree at most D1/nD^{1/n}D1/n. The pieces zi(v)z_i(v)zi(v) sort the joint isotypic components of vvv according to which coordinate carries the smallest degree, and this statement allows one to apply, separately to each piece, a matrix-coefficient bound whose constant is the small sum ∑dbn≤Ddb2\sum_{d_b^n\le D}d_b^2∑dbn≤Ddb2.

Formalization Note The least factor is F.leastFactor a, defined by a choice (Classical.choose) of a minimizing coordinate, and zi(v)z_i(v)zi(v) is F.splitVector ρ v i. The representation ρ\rhoρ need not be unitary, and the inner product on EEE plays no role in this statement. The coordinate representation is ρ.comp (MonoidHom.mulSingle _ i).

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
