A common face with coordinate vertices has diameter at most its dimension
ProvedHirsch.common_face_diameter_of_zero_one_coordsconvex-geometryhirsch-conjecturepolytopes
Naddef on a common face with coordinates. Let be a bounded H-polytope in , and let be the common face of two points , of intrinsic dimension . Write for the canonical coordinate H-polytope of in . If every extreme point of has coordinates in , then the vertex-edge graph of has padded combinatorial diameter at most .
The coordinate polytope is bounded because is bounded and the coordinate chart is an affine isometry. Naddef's theorem then gives , and the already-proved coordinate transfer lifts that bound to .
This is a restricted-family theorem: it applies only when the coordinate vertices are . It does not close the unrestricted common-face diameter leaf of dimension , and it does not prove the polynomial Hirsch conjecture.
