In the program programP (the programs of Section 4 with the rational parameters c=22c=22c=22, θ=29/250\theta=29/250θ=29/250, followed by two new procedures), procedure number 747474, allInstancesP, solves the task wanted entries of a thin matrix product on every instance, within

T(N,D,w,U)=2000+{toff(N,D,w)if D91≤N5,40 (w+1)(D+1)otherwise,T(N,D,w,U)=2000+\begin{cases}t_{\mathrm{off}}(N,D,w)&\text{if }D^{91}\le N^{5},\\[2pt]40\,(w+1)(D+1)&\text{otherwise,}\end{cases}T(N,D,w,U)=2000+{toff(N,D,w)40(w+1)(D+1)if D91≤N5,otherwise,

steps, provided the limits of the run satisfy a polynomial need ν(N,D,w,U)\nu(N,D,w,U)ν(N,D,w,U).

The task. An instance thin(N,D,w,U,x,y,wi,wj,out)\mathrm{thin}(N,D,w,U,x,y,w_i,w_j,\mathit{out})thin(N,D,w,U,x,y,wi,wj,out) consists of an integer matrix X∈ZN×DX\in\mathbb Z^{N\times D}X∈ZN×D stored row by row at address xxx, a matrix Y∈ZD×NY\in\mathbb Z^{D\times N}Y∈ZD×N at yyy, with all entries of absolute value at most UUU, and www distinct positions (ik,jk)∈[N]×[N](i_k,j_k)\in[N]\times[N](ik,jk)∈[N]×[N] whose rows are stored at wiw_iwi and columns at wjw_jwj; all of this lies below a free pointer fff, and N,D,U≥1N,D,U\ge1N,D,U≥1. The procedure must write the www numbers (XY)ikjk(XY)_{i_kj_k}(XY)ikjk to the www cells from out\mathit{out}out and leave every other cell below fff unchanged.

What is proved. For every extension programP+ ⁣ ⁣+R\mathtt{programP}\mathbin{+\!\!+}RprogramP++R of the program, all limits, every depth ddd, every instance and memory satisfying the precondition, if the need ν(N,D,w,U)\nu(N,D,w,U)ν(N,D,w,U) (a bound on word size, number of cells and depth, polynomial in N,D,UN,D,UN,D,U) is met by the limits at free pointer fff and depth ddd, then the body of allInstancesP, started on the arguments (N,D,w,U,x,y,wi,wj,out,f)(N,D,w,U,x,y,w_i,w_j,\mathit{out},f)(N,D,w,U,x,y,wi,wj,out,f), ends within T(N,D,w,U)T(N,D,w,U)T(N,D,w,U) steps in a memory satisfying the postcondition above.

The procedure first tests whether D91≤N5D^{91}\le N^5D91≤N5. If so, it calls the offline form of the data structure of Theorem 30 at the parameters c=22c=22c=22, θ=29/250\theta=29/250θ=29/250 with pruned encodings, whose time is tofft_{\mathrm{off}}toff; otherwise it calls the brute-force product. This is the program behind the bound O(wD0.44274log⁡D+N2log⁡2D/D0.07618)O\big(wD^{0.44274}\log D+N^2\log^2D/D^{0.07618}\big)O(wD0.44274logD+N2log2D/D0.07618) of the thin regime.

Formalization Note The statement is SolvesN thinTask programP Proc.allInstancesP (allInstancesTimeP cShared30) allInstancesNeedP; tofft_{\mathrm{off}}toff is tOffline32P cShared30 ratParamsP N D w and the constant of the shared stage is cShared30 =12 c5+600=12\,c_5+600=12c5+600.

Developed for the prove2.me APSP exponent campaign (https://prove2.me/campaigns/apsp-exponent) on top of the Lean formalization anthropics/formal-math, folder 3sum-apsp, commit e1a4e65 (https://github.com/anthropics/formal-math/tree/e1a4e6508154ea59f030480661590a9fe3018011/3sum-apsp; Lean v4.33.1, Mathlib v4.33.1). The statement comes from the file 3sum-apsp/ThreeSumApsp/Pruned/AllInstancesP.lean of the campaign's modified copy of that library, which is not published; the new and modified definitions it uses are in the platform definition bundles APSP299791_Defs1 to APSP299791_Defs5. It builds on J. Alman and V. Vassilevska Williams, "Truly Subquadratic 3SUM and Truly Subcubic APSP via Triangles in Sparse Lopsided Graphs", arXiv:2610.06783v1 (https://arxiv.org/abs/2610.06783v1), Theorem 30 (pp. 46-47), Corollary 26 (p. 40) and Corollaries 31-32 (p. 49). This result belongs to an improvement of the paper's bounds developed for this campaign and is not stated in the paper.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
