Let n≥1n\ge1n≥1 be an integer and f∈C[x]f\in\mathbb C[x]f∈C[x] a squarefree polynomial of degree at least 111. Let K=C(x)[Y]/(Yn−f(x))K=\mathbb C(x)[Y]/(Y^n-f(x))K=C(x)[Y]/(Yn−f(x)) be the function field of the Kummer cover yn=f(x)y^n=f(x)yn=f(x), with yyy the class of YYY. Fix a point (x0,y0)∈C2(x_0,y_0)\in\mathbb C^2(x0,y0)∈C2 with y0n=f(x0)y_0^n=f(x_0)y0n=f(x0), and let O(x0,y0)⊂K\mathcal O_{(x_0,y_0)}\subset KO(x0,y0)⊂K be the local ring at (x0,y0)(x_0,y_0)(x0,y0) of the affine curve yn=f(x)y^n=f(x)yn=f(x), that is, the localization of C[x][Y]/(Yn−f)\mathbb C[x][Y]/(Y^n-f)C[x][Y]/(Yn−f) at the maximal ideal of (x0,y0)(x_0,y_0)(x0,y0), viewed inside KKK.

Then, for every polynomial p∈C[x]p\in\mathbb C[x]p∈C[x] with p(x0)≠0p(x_0)\ne0p(x0)=0,

p(x)−1∈O(x0,y0).p(x)^{-1}\in\mathcal O_{(x_0,y_0)}.p(x)−1∈O(x0,y0).

This local fact about Kummer covers is used in the regularity criterion for differentials F dxF\,dxFdx at the points where fff vanishes, and in the degree bound at the place over x=∞x=\inftyx=∞, in the computation of the genus three of the quartic y4=2−x4y^4=2-x^4y4=2−x4, which is the curve Re⁡(z4)=1\operatorname{Re}(z^4)=1Re(z4)=1 of Remark 5.

Formalization Note: n≠0n\ne0n=0 is a NeZero instance, and the squarefreeness of fff and deg⁡f>0\deg f>0degf>0 are Fact instances.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
