Footnote 36, p. 15 — α̂₂(A) < α̂₁(A) for 0 < A < 1/4

p2o-batch-pfp2ap2o-gran-per-chapterp2o-plan-paperp2o-v1targeting-precisionthreshold

Let 0<A<1/40 < A < 1/40<A<1/4, α^1(A)=1−A\hat\alpha_1(A) = 1 - Aα^1(A)=1−A and α^2(A)=(1+1−4A)/2\hat\alpha_2(A) = \bigl(1 + \sqrt{1 - 4A}\bigr)/2α^2(A)=(1+1−4A)/2. Then

α^2(A)<α^1(A).\hat\alpha_2(A) < \hat\alpha_1(A).α^2(A)<α^1(A).

With costless advertising the equilibrium in which both firms target group bbb survives on a smaller range of targeting precisions than at high advertising costs, where the threshold is α^1(A)\hat\alpha_1(A)α^1(A).

Formalization Note The footnote states only A<1/4A < 1/4A<1/4; the hypothesis A>0A > 0A>0 is the model's standing assumption 0<A<10 < A < 10<A<1 (§3). At A=0A = 0A=0 both thresholds equal 111.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
