Let F,u∈C[X,Y]F,u\in\mathbb C[X,Y]F,u∈C[X,Y] with F≠0F\ne0F=0, and assume that no irreducible factor of FFF divides uuu: for every irreducible q∈C[X,Y]q\in\mathbb C[X,Y]q∈C[X,Y] with q∣Fq\mid Fq∣F one has q∤uq\nmid uq∤u. In the prime spectrum Spec⁡C[X,Y]\operatorname{Spec}\mathbb C[X,Y]SpecC[X,Y] with its Zariski topology put V(F)={p:F∈p}V(F)=\{\mathfrak p:F\in\mathfrak p\}V(F)={p:F∈p} and D(u)={p:u∉p}D(u)=\{\mathfrak p:u\notin\mathfrak p\}D(u)={p:u∈/p}. Then

V(F)∩D(u)‾=V(F).\overline{V(F)\cap D(u)}=V(F).V(F)∩D(u)=V(F).

Neither FFF nor uuu needs to be irreducible. In the formalization uuu is a chart coordinate, such as u=1/Xu=1/Xu=1/X in a boundary chart of P1×P1\mathbb P^1\times\mathbb P^1P1×P1: the part of the chart curve where u≠0u\ne0u=0, which lies over the affine plane, is dense in the whole chart curve. This is how the boundary points are shown to lie in the closure of the curve (6) in P1×P1\mathbb P^1\times\mathbb P^1P1×P1.

Formalization Note: V(F)V(F)V(F) is PrimeSpectrum.zeroLocus {F} in PrimeSpectrum (MvPolynomial (Fin 2) ℂ), whose topology is Mathlib's Zariski topology.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
