This gives the Danskin-type identification of a truncated-conjugate subgradient image.

Let EEE be a finite-dimensional real inner-product space, let u:E→Ru:E\to\mathbb Ru:E→R be continuous and strictly convex, and let M≥0M\ge0M≥0. Let S⊆ES\subseteq ES⊆E satisfy the interior-maximizer condition: for every p∈Sp\in Sp∈S and every x∈B‾(0,M)x\in\overline B(0,M)x∈B(0,M),

uM∗(p)=⟨p,x⟩−u(x)⟹∥x∥<M.u_M^*(p)=\langle p,x\rangle-u(x)\Longrightarrow\|x\|<M.uM∗(p)=⟨p,x⟩−u(x)⟹∥x∥<M.

Then

∂(uM∗)(S)={x:∃p∈S, ∀y, u(x)+⟨p,y−x⟩≤u(y)}.\partial(u_M^*)(S)=\left\{x:\exists p\in S,\ \forall y,\ u(x)+\langle p,y-x\rangle\le u(y)\right\}.∂(uM∗)(S)={x:∃p∈S, ∀y, u(x)+⟨p,y−x⟩≤u(y)}.

This result converts a subgradient image of the truncated conjugate into an inverse subgradient image of uuu.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
