Let π\piπ be a probability measure and QQQ a Markov proposal kernel on EEE, and let μ(dx,dy)=π(dx)Q(x,dy)\mu(dx,dy)=\pi(dx)Q(x,dy)μ(dx,dy)=π(dx)Q(x,dy). Let ν\nuν be any σ\sigmaσ-finite measure on E×EE\times EE×E that is symmetric, ν(dx,dy)=ν(dy,dx)\nu(dx,dy)=\nu(dy,dx)ν(dx,dy)=ν(dy,dx), and dominates μ\muμ, and let h=dμ/dνh=d\mu/d\nuh=dμ/dν. Then, as measures on E×EE\times EE×E,

π(dx) Q(x,dy) αMH(x,y)=min⁡{h(y,x), h(x,y)} ν(dx,dy).\pi(dx)\,Q(x,dy)\,\alpha_{MH}(x,y) = \min\{h(y,x),\,h(x,y)\}\,\nu(dx,dy).π(dx)Q(x,dy)αMH(x,y)=min{h(y,x),h(x,y)}ν(dx,dy).

This is the first step of the proof of Proposition 5, where it is applied to the mixture proposal: the part of the joint law of a move that is accepted has density min⁡{h(y,x),h(x,y)}\min\{h(y,x),h(x,y)\}min{h(y,x),h(x,y)} with respect to every symmetric dominating measure, not only the one used to define αMH\alpha_{MH}αMH.

Formalization Note The page writes the first equality as h(x,y)min⁡{h(y,x)/h(x,y),1} ν(dx,dy)h(x,y)\min\{h(y,x)/h(x,y),1\}\,\nu(dx,dy)h(x,y)min{h(y,x)/h(x,y),1}ν(dx,dy) for the mixture Q=∑iβiQiQ=\sum_i\beta_iQ_iQ=∑iβiQi; the statement gives the resulting min form, for an arbitrary Markov proposal kernel. αMH\alpha_{MH}αMH is defined through the specific measure μ+μT\mu+\mu^Tμ+μT; the theorem relates it to an arbitrary symmetric dominating ν\nuν.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
