Let m≥1m\ge1m≥1 be an integer and α∈C\alpha\in\mathbb Cα∈C with α≠α‾\alpha\ne\overline\alphaα=α, and put hα(t)=−t(tm+1)(αtm+α‾)∈C[t]h_\alpha(t)=-t(t^m+1)(\alpha t^m+\overline\alpha)\in\mathbb C[t]hα(t)=−t(tm+1)(αtm+α)∈C[t]. Let Kα=C(t)[W]/(W2−hα)K_\alpha=\mathbb C(t)[W]/(W^2-h_\alpha)Kα=C(t)[W]/(W2−hα) be the function field of the double cover w2=hα(t)w^2=h_\alpha(t)w2=hα(t), where ttt and www denote the classes of ttt and WWW; in the setting of the note this is the function field of VαV_\alphaVα, read in the chart of equation (7) with w=t(tm+1)Yw=t(t^m+1)Yw=t(tm+1)Y. Let Aα=C[t][W]/(W2−hα)A_\alpha=\mathbb C[t][W]/(W^2-h_\alpha)Aα=C[t][W]/(W2−hα) be its coordinate ring, viewed inside KαK_\alphaKα. For a point (c,d)∈C2(c,d)\in\mathbb C^2(c,d)∈C2 of the cover, d2=hα(c)d^2=h_\alpha(c)d2=hα(c), let m(c,d)⊂Aα\mathfrak m_{(c,d)}\subset A_\alpham(c,d)⊂Aα be the kernel of the evaluation t↦ct\mapsto ct↦c, w↦dw\mapsto dw↦d, and let O(c,d)=(Aα)m(c,d)⊂Kα\mathcal O_{(c,d)}=(A_\alpha)_{\mathfrak m_{(c,d)}}\subset K_\alphaO(c,d)=(Aα)m(c,d)⊂Kα be the local ring at (c,d)(c,d)(c,d), the valuation ring of the point place (c,d)(c,d)(c,d) of KαK_\alphaKα; it is a discrete valuation ring with maximal ideal m(c,d)O(c,d)\mathfrak m_{(c,d)}\mathcal O_{(c,d)}m(c,d)O(c,d). A uniformizer is an element of O(c,d)\mathcal O_{(c,d)}O(c,d) generating this maximal ideal.

Write ΩKα/C\Omega_{K_\alpha/\mathbb C}ΩKα/C for the KαK_\alphaKα-vector space of Kähler differentials of KαK_\alphaKα over C\mathbb CC and dxdxdx for the differential of x∈Kαx\in K_\alphax∈Kα. A differential ω∈ΩKα/C\omega\in\Omega_{K_\alpha/\mathbb C}ω∈ΩKα/C is regular at (c,d)(c,d)(c,d) if for every uniformizer uuu of O(c,d)\mathcal O_{(c,d)}O(c,d) and every g∈Kαg\in K_\alphag∈Kα with ω=g du\omega=g\,duω=gdu one has g∈O(c,d)g\in\mathcal O_{(c,d)}g∈O(c,d).

Let (c,d)∈C2(c,d)\in\mathbb C^2(c,d)∈C2 with d2=hα(c)d^2=h_\alpha(c)d2=hα(c), and let f∈Kαf\in K_\alphaf∈Kα.

  1. If hα(c)≠0h_\alpha(c)\ne0hα(c)=0, then
f dt is regular at (c,d)  ⟺  f∈O(c,d).f\,dt\text{ is regular at }(c,d)\iff f\in\mathcal O_{(c,d)}.fdt is regular at (c,d)⟺f∈O(c,d).
  1. If hα(c)=0h_\alpha(c)=0hα(c)=0, then
f dt is regular at (c,d)  ⟺  f w∈O(c,d).f\,dt\text{ is regular at }(c,d)\iff f\,w\in\mathcal O_{(c,d)}.fdt is regular at (c,d)⟺fw∈O(c,d).

This collects, for the family, the criteria at the unramified and at the ramified point places; together with the criterion at the place over t=∞t=\inftyt=∞ they describe the differentials f dtf\,dtfdt that are regular at every place, in the local study that the formalization carries out for the genus clause of Lemma 4 of the note (the normalization of VαV_\alphaVα has genus mmm).

Formalization Note: the hypotheses m≥1m\ge1m≥1 and α≠α‾\alpha\ne\overline\alphaα=α are Fact instances; the condition ∣α∣=1|\alpha|=1∣α∣=1 of the note is not assumed.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
