Let CCC be a face of the closed unit ball BBB of a real normed space contained in the unit sphere, with finite-dimensional affine hull. Then C=B∩aff⁡CC=B\cap\operatorname{aff}CC=B∩affC; in particular CCC is closed, and it is compact. Proof: for ccc in the relative interior of CCC and z∈B∩aff⁡Cz\in B\cap\operatorname{aff}Cz∈B∩affC, the point c+ε(c−z)c+\varepsilon(c-z)c+ε(c−z) lies in CCC for small ε>0\varepsilon>0ε>0, and the face property at ccc puts zzz in CCC.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
