Let m≥1m\ge1m≥1 be an integer and α∈C\alpha\in\mathbb Cα∈C with α≠αˉ\alpha\ne\bar\alphaα=αˉ, and let Pα(X,Y)=Xm(α+XY)+Ym(αˉ+XY)∈C[X,Y]P_\alpha(X,Y)=X^m(\alpha+XY)+Y^m(\bar\alpha+XY)\in\mathbb C[X,Y]Pα(X,Y)=Xm(α+XY)+Ym(αˉ+XY)∈C[X,Y] be the polynomial of equation (6) of the note. Under these hypotheses C[X,Y]/(Pα)\mathbb C[X,Y]/(P_\alpha)C[X,Y]/(Pα) is an integral domain; let Fα=Frac⁡(C[X,Y]/(Pα))F_\alpha=\operatorname{Frac}\bigl(\mathbb C[X,Y]/(P_\alpha)\bigr)Fα=Frac(C[X,Y]/(Pα)) be its field of fractions, the function field of the curve Pα=0P_\alpha=0Pα=0.

For a field KKK containing C\mathbb CC, let ΩK/C\Omega_{K/\mathbb C}ΩK/C be its module of Kähler differentials, with universal derivation ddd. A place of KKK is a valuation ring O≠K\mathcal O\ne KO=K of KKK (a subring with ξ∈O\xi\in\mathcal Oξ∈O or ξ−1∈O\xi^{-1}\in\mathcal Oξ−1∈O for every nonzero ξ∈K\xi\in Kξ∈K) that contains C\mathbb CC. A differential is regular at O\mathcal OO if it is a C\mathbb CC-linear combination of differentials a dba\,dbadb with a,b∈Oa,b\in\mathcal Oa,b∈O. The holomorphic differentials H(K)⊆ΩK/CH(K)\subseteq\Omega_{K/\mathbb C}H(K)⊆ΩK/C are those regular at every place of KKK, and the genus of KKK is g(K)=dim⁡CH(K)g(K)=\dim_{\mathbb C}H(K)g(K)=dimCH(K).

Then

g(Fα)=m.g(F_\alpha)=m.g(Fα)=m.

This gives the genus clause of Lemma 4, where VαV_\alphaVα is the closure of the curve Pα=0P_\alpha=0Pα=0 in P1×P1\mathbb P^1\times\mathbb P^1P1×P1, the genus of the normalization of VαV_\alphaVα being read as the genus of its function field; it holds for every m≥1m\ge1m≥1 and every nonreal α\alphaα, while the note assumes ∣α∣=1|\alpha|=1∣α∣=1. For m=2m=2m=2 it is the genus two of the family in Remark 5, compared there with the genus three of Re⁡(z4)=1\operatorname{Re}(z^4)=1Re(z4)=1.

Formalization Note: the hypotheses m>0m>0m>0 and α≠αˉ\alpha\ne\bar\alphaα=αˉ are Fact instances. The field structure on FαF_\alphaFα comes from an instance stating that C[X,Y]/(Pα)\mathbb C[X,Y]/(P_\alpha)C[X,Y]/(Pα) is a domain, derived in the formalization from the irreducibility of PαP_\alphaPα. The genus is Module.finrank of the holomorphic differentials.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
