Let KKK be a field containing C\mathbb CC (a field with a C\mathbb CC-algebra structure), ΩK/C\Omega_{K/\mathbb C}ΩK/C its module of Kähler differentials and d ⁣:K→ΩK/Cd\colon K\to\Omega_{K/\mathbb C}d:K→ΩK/C the universal derivation. A valuation ring of KKK is a subring O⊆K\mathcal O\subseteq KO⊆K such that ξ∈O\xi\in\mathcal Oξ∈O or ξ−1∈O\xi^{-1}\in\mathcal Oξ−1∈O for every nonzero ξ∈K\xi\in Kξ∈K. A differential is regular at O\mathcal OO if it is a C\mathbb CC-linear combination of differentials a dba\,dbadb with a,b∈Oa,b\in\mathcal Oa,b∈O; these form a subspace Reg⁡(O)⊆ΩK/C\operatorname{Reg}(\mathcal O)\subseteq\Omega_{K/\mathbb C}Reg(O)⊆ΩK/C.

Let O\mathcal OO be a valuation ring of KKK and u∈Ou\in\mathcal Ou∈O, and assume:

  1. O\mathcal OO contains C\mathbb CC;
  2. for every b∈Ob\in\mathcal Ob∈O there is g∈Og\in\mathcal Og∈O with db=g dudb=g\,dudb=gdu.

Then, for every ω∈ΩK/C\omega\in\Omega_{K/\mathbb C}ω∈ΩK/C,

ω∈Reg⁡(O)  ⟺  ω=f du  for some f∈O.\omega\in\operatorname{Reg}(\mathcal O)\iff\omega=f\,du\ \text{ for some }f\in\mathcal O.ω∈Reg(O)⟺ω=fdu  for some f∈O.

This links the intrinsic notion of regularity, used to define the genus of a function field without choosing a model, with the uniformizer criterion of explicit computations. It is applied at the points of the double cover w2=−t(tm+1)(αtm+αˉ)w^2=-t(t^m+1)(\alpha t^m+\bar\alpha)w2=−t(tm+1)(αtm+αˉ) attached to the family and at the points of the Kummer covers yn=f(x)y^n=f(x)yn=f(x), in the comparison of genera behind Remark 5: two for the m=2m=2m=2 family, three for Re⁡(z4)=1\operatorname{Re}(z^4)=1Re(z4)=1.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
