Smooth transition between radial–stereographic boundary charts

Proved
SPC4Disk.contDiffOn_boundaryToBoundary

differentialgeometryexplicitdiskatlasmanifoldswithboundary

Let m be a nonnegative integer, p and p′ points of the unit m-sphere, and k any differentiability order. The change of boundary coordinates keeps the first, radial coordinate and applies the sphere’s stereographic change of angular coordinates to the remaining coordinates. Its Euclidean extension is C^k on the set where the inner product of −p′ with the inverse-stereographic unit vector from the p-chart is not 1.

The domain explicitly excludes the second projection’s pole. This is the analytic compatibility result used in the disk atlas assembly.

For every natural number mmm, every pair of unit vectors p,p′∈Rm+1p,p'\in\mathbb R^{m+1}p,p′∈Rm+1, and every differentiability order kkk that is a nonnegative integer, ∞\infty∞, or ω\omegaω, let Lp,Lp′L_p,L_{p'}Lp,Lp′ be the coordinate isometries to Rm\mathbb R^mRm from the orthonormal bases selected by the construction for (−p)⊥(-p)^\perp(−p)⊥ and (−p′)⊥(-p')^\perp(−p′)⊥. Put Up(t)=4Lp−1(t)+(4−∥t∥2)p∥t∥2+4U_p(t)=\frac{4L_p^{-1}(t)+(4-\|t\|^2)p}{\|t\|^2+4}Up(t)=∥t∥2+44Lp−1(t)+(4−∥t∥2)p and Sp′(u)=Lp′(21+⟨p′,u⟩(u−⟨p′,u⟩p′))S_{p'}(u)=L_{p'}\bigl(\frac{2}{1+\langle p',u\rangle}(u-\langle p',u\rangle p')\bigr)Sp′(u)=Lp′(1+⟨p′,u⟩2(u−⟨p′,u⟩p′)), assigning zero to division by zero. The map (a,t)↦(a,Sp′(Up(t)))(a,t)\mapsto(a,S_{p'}(U_p(t)))(a,t)↦(a,Sp′(Up(t))) from Rm+1\mathbb R^{m+1}Rm+1 to itself is of class CkC^kCk on the set {(a,t):⟨−p′,Up(t)⟩≠1}\{(a,t):\langle-p',U_p(t)\rangle\ne1\}{(a,t):⟨−p′,Up(t)⟩=1}. The inverse-stereographic denominator ∥t∥2+4\|t\|^2+4∥t∥2+4 never vanishes, and the displayed set excludes the zero denominator in the forward-stereographic factor. There is no restriction on the real first coordinate aaa, and p=p′p=p'p=p′ is allowed. The case m=0m=0m=0 and any resulting empty domain are included, with the regularity assertion vacuous on an empty domain; k=0k=0k=0, ∞\infty∞, and ω\omegaω denote continuity, smoothness, and analyticity.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
