Smooth transition from the translated interior chart to a boundary chart

Let m be a nonnegative integer, p a unit-sphere direction, and k any differentiability order. After translating v by −2e₀, form its radial coordinate 1−‖v−2e₀‖ and its stereographic angular coordinates in the p-boundary chart. This Euclidean map is C^k where v−2e₀ is nonzero and the normalized vector has inner product different from 1 with −p.

The two exclusions are the origin and the stereographic pole. The statement concerns the explicit transition formula on this domain, not a global smoothness claim for normalization at the origin.

For every natural number mmm, every unit vector p∈Rm+1p\in\mathbb R^{m+1}p∈Rm+1, and every differentiability order kkk that is a nonnegative integer, ∞\infty∞, or ω\omegaω, put s=2e0s=2e_0s=2e0, where e0e_0e0 is the first standard basis vector. Let Lp:(−p)⊥→RmL_p:(-p)^\perp\to\mathbb R^mLp:(−p)⊥→Rm be the coordinate isometry from the orthonormal basis selected by the construction, and define Sp(u)=Lp(21+⟨p,u⟩(u−⟨p,u⟩p))S_p(u)=L_p\bigl(\frac{2}{1+\langle p,u\rangle}(u-\langle p,u\rangle p)\bigr)Sp(u)=Lp(1+⟨p,u⟩2(u−⟨p,u⟩p)), with division by zero interpreted as zero. The ambient Euclidean-space map v↦(1−∥v−s∥,Sp((v−s)/∥v−s∥))v\mapsto\bigl(1-\|v-s\|,S_p((v-s)/\|v-s\|)\bigr)v↦(1−∥v−s∥,Sp((v−s)/∥v−s∥)) is of class CkC^kCk on the set of all v∈Rm+1v\in\mathbb R^{m+1}v∈Rm+1 for which v−s≠0v-s\ne0v−s=0 and ⟨−p,(v−s)/∥v−s∥⟩≠1\langle-p,(v-s)/\|v-s\|\rangle\ne1⟨−p,(v−s)/∥v−s∥⟩=1. The normalizing reciprocal is also total, taking the value zero at a zero denominator, although that case is excluded from the stated set. No bound on ∥v−s∥\|v-s\|∥v−s∥ and no half-space condition on vvv is assumed. The case m=0m=0m=0 is included; k=0k=0k=0 asserts continuity, k=∞k=\inftyk=∞ smoothness, and k=ωk=\omegak=ω analyticity on the displayed set.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
