Let nnn be a natural number and f∈C[x]f\in\mathbb C[x]f∈C[x] a polynomial such that Yn−f(x)Y^n-f(x)Yn−f(x) is irreducible over C(x)\mathbb C(x)C(x). Let K=C(x)[Y]/(Yn−f(x))K=\mathbb C(x)[Y]/(Y^n-f(x))K=C(x)[Y]/(Yn−f(x)) be the function field of the Kummer cover yn=f(x)y^n=f(x)yn=f(x) of the xxx-line, with yyy the class of YYY, so that yn=f(x)y^n=f(x)yn=f(x). Let ΩK/C\Omega_{K/\mathbb C}ΩK/C be its module of Kähler differentials, with universal derivation ddd, and let f′f'f′ be the derivative of fff.

Then, in ΩK/C\Omega_{K/\mathbb C}ΩK/C,

n y n−1 dy=f′(x) dx,n\,y^{\,n-1}\,dy=f'(x)\,dx,nyn−1dy=f′(x)dx,

where the integer nnn is viewed as an element of KKK.

In the check of Remark 5 the quartic X4+Y4=2X^4+Y^4=2X4+Y4=2, which is Re⁡(z4)=1\operatorname{Re}(z^4)=1Re(z4)=1 in the coordinates X=zX=zX=z, Y=zˉY=\bar zY=zˉ, is treated as the Kummer cover y4=2−x4y^4=2-x^4y4=2−x4. This relation is used to test the regularity of differentials F dxF\,dxFdx at the points where fff vanishes, in the computation of the genus three of that quartic.

Formalization Note: the irreducibility of Yn−fY^n-fYn−f over C(x)\mathbb C(x)C(x) is a Fact instance; it forces n≥1n\ge1n≥1, so the exponent n−1n-1n−1 (truncated subtraction in Lean) has its usual meaning.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
