This is an independence lemma for a null-or-conull sub-σ\sigmaσ-algebra.

Let (Ω,F,P)(\Omega,\mathcal F,P)(Ω,F,P) be a probability space, and let m,m′m,m'm,m′ be measurable spaces on Ω\OmegaΩ with m⊆Fm\subseteq\mathcal Fm⊆F. Assume IsTrivialSigma P m, meaning that every mmm-measurable set has PPP-measure either 000 or 111. Then mmm and m′m'm′ are independent under PPP:

Indep⁡(m,m′,P).\operatorname{Indep}(m,m',P).Indep(m,m′,P).

The conclusion is independent of any further relation between m′m'm′ and the ambient measurable space. This is a reusable technical result for discarding null-or-conull factors from independence arguments.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
