crossing-numbergraph-theory

For a finite simple graph GGG on vertex set VVV, the minimum crossing number is bounded below by the excess of edges over the planar threshold:

∣E(G)∣−3∣V∣≤CrossingNumber⁡(G).|E(G)|-3|V|\le \operatorname{CrossingNumber}(G).∣E(G)∣−3∣V∣≤CrossingNumber(G).

Here the crossing number is the minimum cardinality of the finite crossing set among ordinary polygonal drawings of GGG. This is the linear inequality used in the probabilistic proof of the crossing lemma: every induced subgraph contributes its edge surplus beyond 3∣V∣3|V|3∣V∣ to the crossing count.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
