Suppose every product in nest iii consumes at most a fraction ϵ∈[0,1)\epsilon\in[0,1)ϵ∈[0,1) of the capacity: wij≤ϵciw_{ij}\le\epsilon c_iwij≤ϵci. If xxx is an LP optimum for (10) with one fractional coordinate and Sg={j:xj=1}S^g=\{j:x_j=1\}Sg={j:xj=1}, then every feasible assortment TTT satisfies

∑j∈Tvij(rij−u)≤11−ϵ∑j∈Sgvij(rij−u).\sum_{j\in T}v_{ij}(r_{ij}-u)\le\frac{1}{1-\epsilon}\sum_{j\in S^g}v_{ij}(r_{ij}-u).j∈T∑vij(rij−u)≤1−ϵ1j∈Sg∑vij(rij−u).

This is the first-to-last consequence of the inequality chain in §5.2, and identifies the rounded assortment as a 1/(1−ϵ)1/(1-\epsilon)1/(1−ϵ)-approximate solution.

Formalization Note The statement omits the chain's intermediate quotients, which may divide by zero when the rounded assortment is empty.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
