Let KKK be a totally complex number field (for example a CM field). Then its unit group has Z\mathbb{Z}Z-rank

rk⁡ZOK×=[K:Q]2−1.\operatorname{rk}_{\mathbb{Z}} \mathcal{O}_K^\times = \frac{[K:\mathbb{Q}]}{2} - 1.rkZOK×=2[K:Q]−1.

This is Dirichlet's unit theorem r=r1+r2−1r = r_1 + r_2 - 1r=r1+r2−1 with r1=0r_1 = 0r1=0 and 2r2=[K:Q]2 r_2 = [K:\mathbb{Q}]2r2=[K:Q].

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
