Let XXX be a finite data universe, n≥1n\ge1n≥1 the input size, and Q\mathcal QQ any class of real-valued queries on databases (not necessarily counting queries). Let Δ\DeltaΔ be an upper bound on the global sensitivities, GSQ≤ΔGS_Q\le\DeltaGSQ≤Δ for every Q∈QQ\in\mathcal QQ∈Q; the paper takes Δ=max⁡Q∈QGSQ\Delta=\max_{Q\in\mathcal Q}GS_QΔ=maxQ∈QGSQ. Let NNN be a minimum α\alphaα-net for Q\mathcal QQ, and assume the Net mechanism's quality score q(z,D′)=−max⁡Q∈Q∣Q(z)−Q(D′)∣q(z,D')=-\max_{Q\in\mathcal Q}|Q(z)-Q(D')|q(z,D′)=−maxQ∈Q∣Q(z)−Q(D′)∣ is real-valued (the family ∣Q(z)−Q(D′)∣|Q(z)-Q(D')|∣Q(z)−Q(D′)∣, Q∈QQ\in\mathcal QQ∈Q, is bounded for each input zzz and each D′∈ND'\in ND′∈N) and has positive sensitivity. If ε>0\varepsilon>0ε>0, 0<δ≤10<\delta\le10<δ≤1 and

α ≥ 2Δε log⁡∣N∣δ,\alpha\ \ge\ \frac{2\Delta}{\varepsilon}\,\log\frac{|N|}{\delta},α ≥ ε2Δlogδ∣N∣,

then the Net mechanism run on NNN is (2α,δ)(2\alpha,\delta)(2α,δ)-useful for Q\mathcal QQ: for every input z∈Xnz\in X^nz∈Xn, with probability at least 1−δ1-\delta1−δ its output D^\hat DD^ satisfies ∣Q(D^)−Q(z)∣≤2α|Q(\hat D)-Q(z)|\le 2\alpha∣Q(D^)−Q(z)∣≤2α for all Q∈QQ\in\mathcal QQ∈Q.

This is the paper's general reduction: the accuracy of the Net mechanism is governed only by the sensitivity of the queries and the size of the smallest α-net.

Formalization Note The paper's "log⁡Nα(C)/δ\log N_\alpha(C)/\deltalogNα(C)/δ" is the logarithm of ∣Nα(C)∣/δ|N_\alpha(C)|/\delta∣Nα(C)∣/δ. Stating the result for every common upper bound Δ\DeltaΔ of the sensitivities contains the paper's case Δ=max⁡QGSQ\Delta=\max_Q GS_QΔ=maxQGSQ and avoids a junk supremum when the class is infinite. The boundedness hypothesis is the paper's typing q:X∗×R→Rq:X^*\times R\to\mathbb Rq:X∗×R→R; the hypothesis GSq>0GS_q>0GSq>0 is where the exponential mechanism's formula is defined. Neighbours differ in exactly one entry.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
