This vendored theorem states that finite sums preserve the martingale property.

Let sss be a finite set of indices, let fi(t,ω)f_i(t,\omega)fi(t,ω) be a real-valued process for each index iii, and suppose that every fif_ifi with i∈si\in si∈s is a martingale with respect to the filtration F\mathcal FF and measure PPP. Then the process

(t,ω)⟼∑i∈sfi(t,ω)(t,\omega)\longmapsto\sum_{i\in s}f_i(t,\omega)(t,ω)⟼i∈s∑fi(t,ω)

is also a martingale with respect to F\mathcal FF and PPP.

The result is a basic closure property used when assembling finite-dimensional stochastic processes.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
