For every model satisfying the standing assumptions and every possible seller belief θ^∈{θH,θL}\hat\theta\in\{\theta_H,\theta_L\}θ^∈{θH,θL}, the nonnegative quality

q(θ^)=γθ^2s+2γkq(\hat\theta)=\frac{\gamma\hat\theta}{2s+2\gamma k}q(θ^)=2s+2γkγθ^

maximizes v(q,θ^)=γ(θ^q−kq2)−sq2v(q,\hat\theta)=\gamma(\hat\theta q-kq^2)-sq^2v(q,θ^)=γ(θ^q−kq2)−sq2 over all q≥0q\geq0q≥0, and every nonnegative maximizer equals this quality.

This identifies the second-stage seller response used to evaluate the buyers' first-stage communication incentives.

Formalization Note The belief is restricted to the paper's two positive buyer types. Both attainment and uniqueness are stated; the design in an equilibrium is defined independently by maximization.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
