For every u ∈ ℂ, z lies in span_ℚ ℒ + ℚu + ℚū exactly when z = c + pu + qū with c ∈ ℒ and p, q ∈ ℚ, and the Q̄-span of 1 and this space is ℒ̃ + Q̄u + Q̄ū

Here L\mathcal{L}L is the set of logarithms of algebraic numbers (the z∈Cz \in \mathbb{C}z∈C with eze^zez algebraic), and L~\widetilde{\mathcal{L}}L is the Q‾\overline{\mathbb{Q}}Q-vector space spanned by 111 and L\mathcal{L}L. Let u∈Cu \in \mathbb{C}u∈C be arbitrary and Lu=spanQ(L)+spanQ(u,uˉ)\mathcal{L}_u = \mathrm{span}_{\mathbb{Q}}(\mathcal{L}) + \mathrm{span}_{\mathbb{Q}}(u, \bar u)Lu=spanQ(L)+spanQ(u,uˉ). Then:

  • z∈Luz \in \mathcal{L}_uz∈Lu if and only if z=c+pu+quˉz = c + pu + q\bar uz=c+pu+quˉ for some c∈Lc \in \mathcal{L}c∈L and p,q∈Qp, q \in \mathbb{Q}p,q∈Q;
  • spanQ‾({1}∪Lu)=L~+spanQ‾(u,uˉ)\mathrm{span}_{\overline{\mathbb{Q}}}(\{1\} \cup \mathcal{L}_u) = \widetilde{\mathcal{L}} + \mathrm{span}_{\overline{\mathbb{Q}}}(u, \bar u)spanQ({1}∪Lu)=L+spanQ(u,uˉ).

Proof. L\mathcal{L}L is already a Q\mathbb{Q}Q-subspace of C\mathbb{C}C: it contains 000, it is closed under addition since ea+b=eaebe^{a+b} = e^ae^bea+b=eaeb, and under rational multiples by Diaz.exp_ratMul_isAlgebraic; so by span induction spanQ(L)⊆L\mathrm{span}_{\mathbb{Q}}(\mathcal{L}) \subseteq \mathcal{L}spanQ(L)⊆L, and membership in the sum unfolds to z=c+pu+quˉz = c + pu + q\bar uz=c+pu+quˉ. For the second part, 111 and every c+pu+quˉc + pu + q\bar uc+pu+quˉ lie in L~+spanQ‾(u,uˉ)\widetilde{\mathcal{L}} + \mathrm{span}_{\overline{\mathbb{Q}}}(u, \bar u)L+spanQ(u,uˉ), as rationals are algebraic. Conversely L~=spanQ‾({1}∪L)\widetilde{\mathcal{L}} = \mathrm{span}_{\overline{\mathbb{Q}}}(\{1\} \cup \mathcal{L})L=spanQ({1}∪L) lies in spanQ‾({1}∪Lu)\mathrm{span}_{\overline{\mathbb{Q}}}(\{1\} \cup \mathcal{L}_u)spanQ({1}∪Lu) because L⊆Lu\mathcal{L} \subseteq \mathcal{L}_uL⊆Lu, and so do uuu and uˉ\bar uuˉ, which lie in Lu\mathcal{L}_uLu.

Novelty. Elementary; routine.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
