This lemma shows that the formula xLx_LxL enumerates the grid {u+Mj}\{u + Mj\}{u+Mj} in increasing order.

Let m1≥1m_1 \ge 1m1≥1 and M≥m1M \ge m_1M≥m1 be natural numbers, and for L∈NL \in \mathbb{N}L∈N let xL=(L mod m1)+M⌊L/m1⌋x_L = (L \bmod m_1) + M \lfloor L/m_1 \rfloorxL=(Lmodm1)+M⌊L/m1⌋, so that xL=u+Mjx_L = u + MjxL=u+Mj when L=jm1+uL = j m_1 + uL=jm1+u with 0≤u≤m1−10 \le u \le m_1 - 10≤u≤m1−1. Then the map L↦xLL \mapsto x_LL↦xL is strictly increasing on N\mathbb{N}N:

L<L′  ⟹  xL<xL′for all L,L′∈N.L < L' \implies x_L < x_{L'} \qquad \text{for all } L, L' \in \mathbb{N}.L<L′⟹xL<xL′for all L,L′∈N.

Consequently, for every m2m_2m2, the numbers x0<x1<⋯<xm1m2−1x_0 < x_1 < \dots < x_{m_1 m_2 - 1}x0<x1<⋯<xm1m2−1 are the elements of the grid X={u+Mj:0≤u≤m1−1, 0≤j≤m2−1}X = \{u + Mj : 0 \le u \le m_1 - 1,\ 0 \le j \le m_2 - 1\}X={u+Mj:0≤u≤m1−1, 0≤j≤m2−1} in increasing order, and the lifted sequence of the Lift bundle is the jump sequence ΔX\Delta XΔX, with positive entries. The prefix-sum formula for the lifted sequence, the lift lemma and the lower bound L(n)≥m1m2L(n) \ge m_1 m_2L(n)≥m1m2 rely on this.

Formalization Note The conclusion is Mathlib's StrictMono (liftPrefix m₁ M), over all of N\mathbb{N}N; the note uses it only for 0≤L≤m1m2−10 \le L \le m_1 m_2 - 10≤L≤m1m2−1.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
