Identify the Euclidean plane with C\mathbb CC and use the complex coordinates X=zX=zX=z, Y=zˉY=\bar zY=zˉ. Let P∈C[X,Y]P\in\mathbb C[X,Y]P∈C[X,Y] be irreducible in C[X,Y]\mathbb C[X,Y]C[X,Y], of total degree deg⁡P≥2\deg P\ge 2degP≥2, with infinite real locus C={z∈C:P(z,zˉ)=0}C=\{z\in\mathbb C: P(z,\bar z)=0\}C={z∈C:P(z,zˉ)=0}. Then there is a constant c∈Cc\in\mathbb Cc∈C, c≠0c\ne 0c=0, such that the coefficients of cP=∑a,b≥0qabXaYbcP=\sum_{a,b\ge 0}q_{ab}X^aY^bcP=∑a,b≥0qabXaYb are conjugate-symmetric:

qba=qab‾for all a,b≥0.q_{ba}=\overline{q_{ab}}\qquad\text{for all }a,b\ge 0.qba=qabfor all a,b≥0.

Conjugate-symmetric coefficients are those of the complexification f((X+Y)/2,(X−Y)/(2i))f\bigl((X+Y)/2,(X-Y)/(2i)\bigr)f((X+Y)/2,(X−Y)/(2i)) of a real polynomial f(x,y)f(x,y)f(x,y), as in the symmetry pba=pab‾p_{ba}=\overline{p_{ab}}pba=pab stated before equation (4). The lemma is used to recover a real Cartesian equation for CCC, which connects the statements in the coordinates z,zˉz,\bar zz,zˉ with the setting of Theorems 1 and 2.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
