This formalizes the epsilon reduction underlying Proposition 12 of Cordero–Erausquin–Klartag (arXiv:1304.0630v1).

Let dxdxdx be a measure and let μ\muμ be a nonzero finite Borel measure on a real inner-product space. If fff is potential-integrable and ε>0\varepsilon>0ε>0, then there exists an integer n>0n>0n>0 such that, with

c=Leg⁡ ⁣(Leg⁡(max⁡(f,−n))),c=\operatorname{Leg}\!\left(\operatorname{Leg}\left(\max(f,-n)\right)\right),c=Leg(Leg(max(f,−n))),

ccc is a convex lower-semicontinuous potential, is potential-integrable with respect to μ\muμ, and

Vdx,μ(f)≤Vdx,μ(c)+ε.\mathcal V_{dx,\mu}(f) \leq \mathcal V_{dx,\mu}(c)+\varepsilon.Vdx,μ(f)≤Vdx,μ(c)+ε.

The variational functional and the epsilon are interpreted in EReal, so zero and infinite exponential masses remain part of the statement.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
