This lemma is a scalar inequality underlying a matrix log-determinant estimate.

For positive real numbers a,ba,ba,b and an upper bound KKK satisfying a≤Ka\le Ka≤K and b≤Kb\le Kb≤K,

log⁡b+(b−a)22K2≤log⁡a+b−aa.\log b+\frac{(b-a)^2}{2K^2}\le \log a+\frac{b-a}{a}.logb+2K2(b−a)2≤loga+ab−a.

The declaration scalar_log_gap_readable is a technical one-variable estimate. The hypotheses imply in particular that K>0K>0K>0, although positivity of KKK is not listed separately.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
