This statement describes integration of a matrix trace against a matrix field whose entrywise mean is the identity.

Let Ω be a measurable space, ρ a measure on Ω, and ι a finite index type with decidable equality. Let H:Ω→Matrix(ι,ι,ℝ). Assume every entry HijH_{ij}Hij is integrable and has mean

∫H(y)ij dρ=(I)ij.\int H(y)_{ij}\,d\rho=(I)_{ij}.∫H(y)ijdρ=(I)ij.

Then for every real matrix B, the function y↦tr⁡(BH(y))y\mapsto\operatorname{tr}(BH(y))y↦tr(BH(y)) is integrable and

∫tr⁡(BH(y)) dρ=tr⁡(B).\int\operatorname{tr}(BH(y))\,d\rho=\operatorname{tr}(B).∫tr(BH(y))dρ=tr(B).

This is a finite-coordinate linearity lemma for matrix-valued integration.

Formalization Note The hypothesis is entrywise and does not require H or B to be symmetric, positive, or measurable as a bundled matrix-valued function.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
