Let (Ω,P)(\Omega,P)(Ω,P) be a probability space, let mim_imi be a family of sigma-algebras indexed by ι\iotaι, and let m′m'm′ be another sigma-algebra. Assume mi≤mΩm_i\leq m_\Omegami≤mΩ for every iii and m′≤mΩm'\leq m_\Omegam′≤mΩ. If for every finite set S⊆ιS\subseteq\iotaS⊆ι,

⋁i∈Smi  is independent of m′,\bigvee_{i\in S}m_i\ \text{ is independent of }m',i∈S⋁mi  is independent of m′,

then

⋁i∈ιmi  is independent of m′.\bigvee_{i\in\iota}m_i\ \text{ is independent of }m'.i∈ι⋁mi  is independent of m′.

This is a general independence-extension lemma from finite subjoins to the full supremum.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
