This is a convolution monotonicity statement for quadratic-form variance.

Let EEE be a complete real inner-product normed space with Borel and second-countable structure. Let μ\muμ and ν\nuν be probability measures on EEE, each with finite fourth moment, and assume the mean of ν\nuν is zero. For any continuous linear map A:E→EA:E\to EA:E→E,

Var⁡μ(x↦⟨Ax,x⟩)≤Var⁡μ∗ν(x↦⟨Ax,x⟩).\operatorname{Var}_{\mu}\bigl(x\mapsto\langle Ax,x\rangle\bigr) \le \operatorname{Var}_{\mu*\nu}\bigl(x\mapsto\langle Ax,x\rangle\bigr).Varμ(x↦⟨Ax,x⟩)≤Varμ∗ν(x↦⟨Ax,x⟩).

Here Measure.conv is the law of the sum of independent variables with laws μ\muμ and ν\nuν. The result is a reusable variance comparison and does not assert any constant bound.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
